The city of Bergen is known for its rain. In 2007 we had 80 days of continuing rain...It rains a lot in this city! Now we've had about 5 weeks of nothing but sun! And of course, the people of Bergen know how to appreciate it! This photo is from 'Bryggen' (the waterfront). In the late Middle ages the Hanseatic League established the German Kontor (Office) in Bryggen, which became a thriving center of international trade. The characteristic parallel rows of buildings, with their seaward-facing gables represent a building tradition dating back almost 900 years. The old wooden buildings along the harbor front in Bergen were placed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List in 1980.
Bryggen is situated next to the famous Fish Market in Bergen.
